English Language test

English Language tests are especially for students who are non-native speakers such as Indian students. These tests will measure of the required English language skills that international applicants should have.

IELTS – The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is used as a language of communication. IELTS is a worldwide accepted and most trusted validation of English language skills and the test assesses your abilities in listening, reading, writing, and speaking – in less than three hours. It is required by most countries and one of the most important criteria to allow admissions to international applicants who desire to study English-taught programmes at reputable colleges and universities. Academic IELTS has many variants of English, including American, British and Australian English.

TOEFL – The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test measures your ability to use and understand English at the university level. And it evaluates how well you combine your reading, listening, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks. The TOEFL test, delivered via the internet, is an important part of a student’s journey to study in an English-speaking country. This test is taken up mostly by students looking for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the USA. There are both, paper-based and online TOEFL tests available for students. A good TOEFL score improves a student's chances of securing admission in a good school, especially in the USA.

PTE – PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic is a computer-based test which assesses the Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing abilities of non-native speakers of English to obtain places at English-speaking universities or as proof of their language ability for a visa application. PTE Academic is a bit different from the other tests and typically delivers results in five business days. The test is accepted over 1000 Institutions worldwide and based more on everyday English. This makes PTE a popular choice amongst many students who are in a hurry to get their English tests scores reported before sending over their applications to overseas institutes.

Standardised tests

Standardised tests are mostly considered as academic criteria laid down by each university or college abroad. Standardised tests vary depending on the course and country that you select for your studies.

SAT – Scholastic Assessment Test or SAT is mostly taken up by students planning to pursue undergraduate degree at universities in the USA and Canada, also some UK universities accept SAT scores. Though it is not a mandatory requirement by all institutions across the globe, but you need to check if the scores are particularly required by your desired college or University. The SAT exam scores mainly assess a student’s written, verbal, and analytical skills.

ACT – American College Testing or ACT is yet another test needed for undergraduate admissions in the USA. The test evaluates the verbal, written, scientific and mathematical skills of students.

Not every college or university abroad you apply at will ask for standardised test scores. Some universities might exempt standardised test scores and ask only for the language test scores from students. And some Universities might waive off the language test as well.
